1. Information you give us
When you create an account we ask for your first and last name, a username, your email address, a password, your date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or older) and your gender. You can optionally add a phone number and a profile photo.
You can enrich your profile with more about yourself — all of it optional: a bio, your home city and country, interests, social media links, education, job title and company, marital status, and travel preferences. You choose what to add and can edit or remove it at any time.
2. Trip information
When you add a trip we collect the details you enter: how you’re traveling (flight, bus, train or ship), the carrier and service number, the departure date, and your origin and destination. If you set travel companion preferences — such as preferred gender, age range, travel class or purpose — we store those too, and use them only for matching.
3. Information collected automatically
We collect device and app information needed to run the service: device model and OS version, app version, a push notification token, crash reports and basic usage diagnostics.
- Location: SoloTrips never tracks your location in the background and never uses it for advertising. If you turn on travel-day location sharing for a trip, we use your device’s approximate location only during that trip’s travel-day window to show you and other opted-in passengers a coarse distance to one another — for example “same terminal” or “under 1 mile”, never a precise location or a point on a map. It is off by default, you can turn it off at any time, and the data is deleted automatically when the window ends. Your precise location is never shown to other users. If you don’t turn it on, the only places we know about are the cities and ports you type in yourself.
- Face detection for profile photos runs entirely on your device to check the photo shows a face. No biometric data ever leaves your phone or is stored by us.
4. How we use your information
- To run SoloTrips: your account, profile, trips, chat and checklists.
- To connect you with travelers on the same or neighboring trips — only while your discoverability window is active, and only within your privacy settings.
- To protect your identity: in passenger lists you are shown by passenger number, not by name.
- To deliver messages and the push notifications you’ve enabled (each type can be turned off in Settings).
- To keep the community safe: enforcing our terms, processing blocks and reviewing reports.
- To fix problems, improve the product, and respond when you contact us.
5. What other travelers can see
Your profile is only shown to other travelers according to your privacy settings. Discovery is opt-in and time-boxed: you appear to travelers on the same or neighboring trips only while a discovery window you started is active. Chat always begins with a request that you can accept or decline. You can block any traveler — blocking is bidirectional and immediate.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we never share it with advertisers. We share data only with the service providers that power SoloTrips, and only what they need:
- A push-notification and crash-reporting provider — so messages reach your device and we can fix problems.
- The Apple App Store / Google Play and our subscription-management provider — subscription billing. We never see your full payment details.
- Our cloud hosting provider — secure operation of our servers, databases and photo storage.
- Authorities — only where the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our travelers.
7. Data retention & deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Security — this removes your profile, trips and personal data from the service. We may retain limited records where the law requires it (for example, safety reports) for a defined period.
8. Security
Your data is encrypted in transit, and access to production systems is restricted and audited. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data like we’d want ours treated.
9. Your rights
You can access and edit your profile data directly in the app, and delete your account yourself. Depending on where you live — including the EEA/UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA) — you may also have rights to request a copy of your data, correction, deletion, or restriction of processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Email privacy@solotripsapp.com and we’ll help.
10. Age requirement
SoloTrips is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and we verify age at signup. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it and its data.
11. International transfers
Our servers are located in the United States. If you use SoloTrips from elsewhere, your information is processed in the US with the safeguards described in this policy.
12. Changes & contact
If we make material changes to this policy we’ll notify you in the app before they take effect. Questions, requests, or concerns: privacy@solotripsapp.com.
